Deflowering
In beginning my exodus from Canada, I headed 6 hours northeast from Hamilton to Ottawa to visit my Aunt Saundra at Rideau Pines Farm. After an exciting little league lacross game, an amazing pork chop dinner and a restful night's sleep, I headed out to the strawberry fields to lend a hand. I had the glamorous job of deflowering first-year strawberry plants. By keeping them from flowering and fruiting the first year, the plant is able to spend all its energy on sending out runners and growing bigger. It is a harsh but necessary act; these little plants have to grow up sometime.

Oma turns 90!
In a gathering of Tigchelaars, this sign made us giggle.
Cousin "sleepover" and storytime with Oma. We lit 90 candles!
